How to add a WooCommerce product table to your store

Published

WooCommerce is without a doubt the number one piece of e-commerce software on the market at the moment. What we really love about WooCommerce is the many extensions available and the ability to easily customize your site at the click of a button. Adding a WooCommerce product table (instead of the standard product grid) is no different. Using a simple plugin and a shortcode, you’ll be able to add one to your store in no time.

In this guide we’re going to walk you through the process of setting up a WooCommerce product table on your own site. Let’s get in to it.

Step 1: Install a WooCommerce product table plugin

As mentioned above, adding a product table to your store requires a plugin to be installed. There are many plugins available that give you the ability to add a product table. In fact, we here at WP Geeks are in the process of developing one of our very own WooCommerce product table plugins.

Our plugin is not quite ready just yet, but in the meantime and for the purposes of this guide, we recommend that you install the Woo Product Table plugin from the WordPress.org repository.

Go ahead and do that and once installed, activate the plugin and move on to the next step.

Step 2: Configure the product table columns and layout

Now that the plugin is installed, we should define what columns and product data we want displayed in the table and how we want it to look like on the frontend of the website.

Navigate to “WPT Table” on the WP Admin sidebar. From this page, you’ll see 4 different tabs with configurations for setting up the plugin. The most important tab is the first one called “Column”. This tab allows you to define what columns you would like to show on the product table.

Deciding on which columns to display is an important step and worth taking some time to put some thought in to. Columns provide your potential customer with the information they need to be able to purchase the product. Put yourself in to a customers shoes and think about what information do you need to be satisfied that you can now go ahead and buy.

It’s also worth adding columns that can help sell the product for you. One such column would be “Customer Rating”. If your products have a number of positive ratings, this can add validation to your potential customer that because other people love it and they will also. It makes the decision of purchasing the product easier for them.

Once you’ve decided on which columns to add to the table, go ahead and select them on the settings page and click “Generate Shortcode”. This shortcode is important, so copy it and move on the step 3.

Step 3: Enable to table on the frontend by using the product table shortcode

Ok, it’s time to put this table to use! To show the table on your website, you need to use the shortcode. Since you copied the shortcode in step 2, it should be on your clipboard. Go ahead and navigate to “Pages” on the WP Admin sidebar. Choose a page or create a new page on which you would like to show the product table.

Open the page and paste in the shortcode, lastly, save the page. Here is what the page shortcode looks like on our demo store.
